How to Participate

None of our guests are compelled to participate in any of our activities but we highly recommend that they do. They are educational and let one get to grips with living in isolated places a long time ago.

What to bring

All our activities are part of our daily programme of events. One need bring no additiional clothing or equipment. All equipment such as saddles for horseriding etc. are all supplied at our hotel. South African Climate. Hats are supplied. It is always advisable to wear a hat in South Africa - and sunglasses (to guard against glare) when walking. A lightweight waterproof jacket is a good idea for warmth and protection.

Individual and Group Activities

Surry Rides

Enjoy the 1880´s extravagance of taking a Surry Ride around the farm! You can also take part in one of our other group activities and take a donkey-cart ride up a mountain track to take in the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains view!

Oxwagon Treks

Part of you experiencing the 1880´s is taking an oxwagon trek to take a view over the Drakensberg Mountain range from the spot where the spies were hidden during the wars.

Horseriding

Take a 15km horseride and see plenty of wildlife in the highest wetland area of Africa! Our horses are there for your enjoyment and can be saddled up at any time for you.

Enjoy the solitude of a private hike or join us for a guided hike to the caves to view bushman paintings from a bygone era.

Come and be entertained by our donkey rodeo riders and enjoy a traditional afternoon tea with snacks!

Farm Activities

We offer very many traditional 1880 farm activities like milking goats and cows, making butter and cheese, separating milk! A highlight not to be missed is making your own quill pen for sending messages by carrier pigoen!
